Meet the Chef
Andrew was born in Sidmouth and spent his childhood years in Devon, even starting his first job at The Westcliffe Hotel at the tender age of thirteen. Upon completing his studies at Exeter College, Andrew began work at The Carlton Hotel in Bournemouth before heading off to the bright lights of London eighteen months later to take up a position at The Hyde Park Hotel in Knightsbridge.
Following an enjoyable spell as Sous Chef at “Frederick’s” in Camden Passage Andrew then was honoured to accept the position as Head Chef at The Park Lane Hotel’s “Bracewells” restaurant.
Later in his career Andrew reopened the Norfolk Hotel in Kensington as Executive Chef before deciding to move to Peterborough where he already had a second home. As Executive Chef at The Swallow Hotel, Andrew cites his proudest moment as the winning of an AA Rosette for the hotel’s A La Carte restaurant.
Andrew purchased The Cherry House in 1994 as Chef Patron, the beginning of one of Peterborough’s greatest restaurant success stories. During the intervening years, the restaurant’s reputation has flourished and some of the nation’s highest profile film producers, critics and actors have enjoyed Andrew’s culinary expertise through his work with The Film Distributors Association.
The key to his success? “We have always remained true to what we set out to achieve, fine dining both in terms of food and service. When we say we source quality, local ingredients, we mean it, it’s not just a fashionable cliche. There are very few restaurants in this area that can offer the dining experience to be had at The Cherry House; the fact that our bricks and mortar and location make us unique is an added bonus. But we’re not ready to rest on our laurels, we are constantly looking to offer new dishes with our menu changing fortnightly and perhaps as important, always reviewing exactly what it is we offer the diners of Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and beyond.”
